| Stephanie with Dolly the Cocker Spaniel at The Barn in the Snow |
January is always a bit of an anti climactic month, diets and no alcohol – the tobogganing has been good but onwards and upwards for the year ahead.
We ran some courses the year before last which were very successful, and so we have decided to embark on some again this year. The course will cover the general theory of Interior Design, some basic architectural drawing techniques and the all important spatial planning. We will spend a great deal of time on the schemes – always the fun part – and we will focus on each person’s room of choice. The dates of the course are 1st February, 15th February, 1st March and 15th March. The 1st March course is already fully booked so do get in touch as soon as possible if you are interested as we have limited places for the other dates too. If you recommend a friend we have a special discount offer as well, so call us at The Barn for further details.

Another bit of breaking news we are about to launch our accessory shop on line. We will start with a capsule collection of silk and cotton velvet cushions, some beautiful scented candles and a collection of some of the furniture we have designed over the years – watch this space.
In the world of Interior design we feel this year it is time for strength of colour. This does not mean brightly coloured walls everywhere but rooms using depth of colour – see the Little Greene Paint Company’s Hicks Blue used on full height panelling and remember when painting panelling go the whole hog and do the doors, the architraves, the skirting and cornice as well as all the walls. The ceiling then just needs a lick of Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone.

And for something a bit racy Zoffany’s Vermeer yellow accented with Farrow & Ball’s Tanners Brown and pictures framed in off-black deep frames. There is just something so comforting being in a room that is deeply coloured, accessorised with a few carefully chosen and loved paintings, a scented candle and a good book.
